About German University Bangladesh
Introduction:
German University Bangladesh (GUB) has been approved by the Government of Bangladesh and the UGC (University Grants Commission). The idea to establish “German University Bangladesh” first came from Professor Dr.-Ing. Saifullah Khandker, a Bangladeshi who went to Germany for higher studies. He turned German remaining therein for decades as a Professor of notable German Universities. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Saifullah Khandker is the founder of “German University Bangladesh” which is a distinguished landmark in higher education. To this back-drop, it may be mentioned here that the present day scenario on Higher Education System in Bangladesh was presented at a seminar organized by “Initiative German University Bangladesh i.e. IGUB e.V., www.igub.org” wherein the idea for the establishment of GUB was confirmed. The IGUB e.V. was founded by a group of highly qualified German Professors of different German Universities headed by Professor Dr.-Ing. Saifullah Khandker. The IGUB e.V. was registered in 2007 in Berlin, Germany. GUB has been governed by the GUB Board of Trustees (GUBT) consisting of 13 members. GUBT was registered in Bangladesh on 16 January 2012. Professor Dr.-Ing. Saifullah Khandker is the founder Chairman of the GUBT. For quit a long time he was concurrently holding the post of Vice-Chancellor of GUB. The nature of GUB, GUBT and IGUB are education oriented, non-profitable, non-government, nonpolitical and voluntary. The members of Board of Trustees belong to a group of Bangladeshi young and dynamic entrepreneurs and intellectuals.

GUB has been founded by the members of German University Bangladesh Trust (GUBT) and the “Initiative German University Bangladesh i.e. (IGUB)”. The nature of both organizations are non-profitable; non-government, non political and voluntary. The members of Board of Trustees belong to a group of Bangladeshi young and dynamic entrepreneurs and intellectuals. The Trust has been registered in 2012 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The “Initiative German University Bangladesh i.e. (IGUB)” was founded by a group of highly qualified German Professors of different German Universities headed by Professor Dr.-Ing. Saifullah Khandker, a Bangladeshi who turned German and registered in 2007 in Berlin, Germany. Both organizations, IGUB and GUBT have already signed an agreement in April 2012. Main aim of IGUB & GUBT is to establish a fully residential “German University Bangladesh [GUB]” in Bangladesh with association of leading German Universities. Initially we are starting the University at Gazipur near Dhaka.
When fully commissioned it would be built on two and a half Hector Land and would ultimately sit at a peaceful campus skirted by forest land at Guptabrindaban, Shagardighi ca. 100 km northwest from Dhaka under Upazila Ghatail, District Tangail. GUB will be a specialized university with precise and specific purpose of developing skilled manpower in disciplines that would be mostly needed in the immediate future to address the complex global economic, health and environmental anomalies of the 21st century. The University will help to develop faculties and techniques in a student to take up the challenges in the frontiers of the future with German precision.
Mission & Vision:
The prime objective of this specialized University will be - to introduce quality education and expand of some yet unexplored nontraditional scientific fields into the Bangladeshi educational curriculum, particularly: Environment Protection Technology, Food Science and Bio-Technology, Agricultural Science & Technology, Bio-Engineering and Medicine (Veterinary medicine and Public Health). These study fields will be categorized in 4-faculties and subdivided under more than 20 departments. Moreover, German experienced Professors will be responsible to maintain the Standard and Quality of Education as well as for the accreditation of Degrees of this University according to European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). The first Vice Chancellor will be Professor Dr. vet. med. Leo Brunnberg, a highly experienced German Professor. Ultimately the University shall serve for building up a reservoir of highly skilled, scientific and technical manpower according to the global needs.
